My Origin Story

I started Secret Shimmers because life was... overwhelming. Between pregnancy, nappies, and a very opinionated dog, I needed solutions that worked. Don't get me started on the fact that I'd gone from growing up in an all female household to finally living independently and in my own space to then living with my partner (who I've since upgraded to Husband status).

After having my baby and while on maternity leave, I suffered from D-MER, which made my start into motherhood somewhat challenging and downright depressing. No one knew how to help me - including those I was referred to - the advice I got was “Do something that makes you happy”. The problem with that advice is that you have to be in the right mindset in order to see or do something “Happy”. With the state of mind I was in and when I felt the surge, everything was black, dull and muted - I wasn’t me - I didn’t even feel like a shell of myself. It felt like looking through a tiny window from a pitch black room where all I felt was rage, and despair. When it came time to return to work… well you can imagine how that went, especially after my request to reduce my hours was declined despite accepting the reduced pay.

One day, I decided to start making again in a desperate attempt to reclaim control and pride. My husband was my rock and he cheered me on and did his very best to pull me out of the dark place when he saw that my eyes had started to glaze over. My baby was (and is) amazing and even when I was in all the darkness, I never regretted him. I looked at him and saw hope. I needed to be strong for him and I wanted him to grow up and say “My mummy did that”.

My family inspired this business and constantly challenge me to be better and do better - in my personal life and my work ethics.

With 15 years of experience in hospitality and corporate sales, I swapped my heels for wax and turned a lifelong dream into a business with products that are practical enough to work in my home and for my family.

Every product is hand-poured and made in the UK, and created with care for people, homes, and the planet - especially for the future of my son, who inspires everything I do.
